Craig Melvin is ‘dad of the year’ after getting his ears pierced to support daughter

Craig Melvin goes above and beyond for his kids.

On Wednesday, the 42-year-old Today host shared a post showing him and his family all smiles after getting their ears pierced. He used the caption to explain the heartwarming story behind the photos.

"My daughter, Sybil, wanted her ears pierced for her 5th birthday. When we got there, she convinced us all to do it. A family that pierces together stays together. That’s the saying right???" He wrote.

Fans took to the comments to commend the father-of-two for his sweet gesture.

"Awww, so sweet that you all pierced your ears also for Sybil . Happy 5th Birthday Sybil," a fan wrote, with others adding, "How sweet is that! And the fact that you waited until she asked to get her ears pierced is way cool. My mom did the same," and, "You all are just the cutest family! Happy birthday to your beautiful 5 year old."

Another said, "That’s awesome. Such simple things are major memories," while one fan declared, "Ok dad of the year award."

Earlier this year, Melvin, who shares daughter Sybil and 7-year-old son Delano with his wife, sports reporter Lindsay Czarniak, released his new book Pops: Learning to Be a Son and a Father, in which he opened up about what his relationship with his father taught him about fatherhood.

“My father for all his faults when I was younger, he was always comfortable with who he was...He passed that on to me. And that’s one of the things that I hope they pick up on and value,” he wrote.“It is, perhaps, unreasonable to expect a Black father to be able like that to be the kind of father that they did not see growing up. My father didn’t find out who my father was until he was almost a teenager. He did a whole heck of a lot better than his dad did. I’d like to think I’m doing a little bit better than my dad did.”
