Crash kills 2 on major Charlotte highway Saturday. Lanes closed. Expect delays.

Two people died in a wreck on Interstate 485 in Charlotte on Saturday morning, MEDIC said on social media.

And lanes on I-85 in Concord could be closed until 8:15 p.m. after an afternoon wreck, highway officials said.

The I-485 crash happened just before 11:30 a.m. on northbound I-485 near Rocky River Road, state highway officials said.

Two of three lanes were closed just after Exit 36 at Rocky River Road, according to DriveNC.gov, the real-time traffic map of the N.C. Department of Transportation. The left two lanes were closed.

The wreck was cleared just after 1 p.m., highway officials said. Backups continued, so expect delays.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, the I-85 crash with injuries closed the three right northbound lanes near Bruton Smith Boulevard exit 48, highways officials said.

A person was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and another with serious injuries, MEDIC said.

Lanes should open by 8:15 p.m., according to NCDOT.

Police have released no details about the crashes.
