Creative youths sought for children's book

Indigenous youths who are handy with a paint brush or pencil are being sought to help illustrate a children’s book about traditional wild rice. The project is being led by Northwestern Ontario Indigenous filmmaker Morningstar Derosier. A bulletin about the project recently appeared on Fort First William First Nation’s Facebook page. “We are looking to hire 10 artists (who) will be paid for their time and work,” the bulletin said. Any profits from the upcoming book will be used to support wild-rice revitalization projects, the bulletin added. Derosier, who is from Eagle Lake First Nation, can be reached by email at
