Crews battle wildfire near Banff National Park border

Firefighters are trying to contain a forest fire approximately 50 kilometres west of Nordegg near the Banff National Park border.

The blaze was caused by a lightning strike and is being held at 1000 hectares. Crews anticipate the wildfire will not spread past predetermined boundaries.

Environment and Sustainable Resources Development has 12 firefighters and four helicopters on the scene trying to manage the wildfire. This afternoon crews are attempting a controlled burn in an effort to enhance natural fire barriers.

The Warden Lake trail and parts of the North Saskatchewan River near the Highway 93N bridge have been closed due to safety concerns.
