Crews were called to fight a fire at the Crown Shred and Recycling facility in Regina on Thursday.

The facility is on the 200 block of Sixth Ave. E., in the industrial part of the Eastview neighbourhood. It contains large quantities of paper and other recyclable materials.

Heavy smoke was pouring out of the area over the noon hour.

At one point, at least five fire department vehicles were at the scene while firefighters sprayed water at the flames.

Crews got the fire under control after about an hour.

The Regina fire department said the fire was out before it could get into the main building and nobody was injured.

There was no official word on what might have caused the fire. A fire inspector is investigating.
