Halton Regional Police searched through the night on Thursday for a boater that they believe went missing in Lake Ontario near Oakville.
Police were called to an area near 16 Mile Creek and Lake Ontario amid strong winds and thunderstorms Thursday evening, where they discovered a boat with no occupants inside.
According to a police investigation, the vessel was purchased earlier in the day and the "experienced" operator was observed alone while boarding and leaving Bronte Harbor around 12 p.m. on Thursday.
Search and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the area, with an extensive shoreline search covering Lake Ontario from 16 Mile Creek Area to Bronte Harbour.
Flares were used to illuminate Lake Ontario, as the search continued well into the night.
