Crews search river, shore after 'items of concern' found near Manitoba Legislature

Police searched the grounds and water near the Manitoba Legislature on Friday afternoon after finding some "items of concern," a spokesperson for the Winnipeg Police said.

Around 3:30 p.m., crews were seen searching on land and in boats on the Red River.

At one point, an officer pulled what appeared to be a woman's purse off a piece of ice in the river.

During the search, an officer said police found items of clothing near the shore.

Friday evening, a spokesperson confirmed the identification unit had been on the scene. He said searchers hadn't found anything other than the initial items that sparked the search.

The investigation continues.
