Crowd Cheers As Traffic Warden (Finally) Issues Parking Ticket To Police Car

Nobody is above the law.

If you want proof, just look at these photos of a traffic warden issuing a parking ticket… to a police car.

Dozens of passers-by applauded the traffic warden when he finally put the ticket on the police vehicle’s windscreen after much hesitation.

The driver of the police car was penalised for overstaying at a car park on the West Pier in the seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

Artist Graham Rhodes said there were cheers and clapping when the car was given a fixed penalty notice last Thursday afternoon.

“It felt like I was witnessing karma in action. It was a really odd situation where people weren’t sure whose side they were on,” he said.

“There was a real moment of ‘will-he, won’t-he?’. I think he made the right call though. It can’t be one rule for police and one for everyone else.

“I could see the warden thinking about it from outside the front of my shop. He made a couple of calls and was clearly checking something on his phone.”

Prices at the car park range from under £2 for a one-hour stay up to £7.50 for 24 hours.

However, South Yorkshire police said later that the ticket had been cancelled because emergency vehicles were allowed in the car park.

Scarborough Borough Council later confirmed the ticket has been issued in error.
