“What’s in a name?” asks William Shakespeare’s Juliet. “That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
Arbitrarily selected names may not change an inherent identity, but when it comes to road and street names they do help establish geographic location and direction.
To that end, Crowsnest Pass council ratified names for three previously unnamed roads in Blairmore during its July 6 meeting. The three roads in question were the road leading to Grassy Mountain, the road travelling up to the Pass Powderkeg ski lodge and the road connecting drivers to the Crowsnest Pass Golf Club.
Road names were selected after consultation with management at Riversdale Resources, the ski hill and the golf course. Each name was chosen to easily distinguish where each road leads to.
Grassy Mountain Road will start from the T-intersection of 129th Street and 25th Avenue and will lead up to Grassy Mountain. Powderkeg Drive begins at 16th Avenue and goes up to the Pass Powderkeg ski lodge. Golf Course Road branches off Grassy Mountain Road and goes to the golf clubhouse.
