Culvert extension on Steenburg Lake Road South planned for Dec. 4 and 5

On their Facebook page on Nov. 24, Tudor and Cashel Township announced that they’ll be doing a culvert expansion project on Steenburg Lake Road South on Dec. 4 and 5, weather permitting. Nancy Carrol, clerk and treasurer, says the extension was part of the Capital Budget for the 2023 year.

Tentatively planned for Dec. 4 and 5, weather permitting, there will be a culvert extension project undertaken on Steenburg Lake Road South. A culvert is a pipe that allows water to flow under a road, from one side to the other. They can also be used as a cross drain to relieve drainage of ditches at the sides of a road. The origins of the word culvert are unknown but the first known use of a culvert dates back to 1773 and according to online etymology sources, may have been the name of a long-forgotten bridge builder or engineer.

According to the township, access will be limited during the culvert extension project, and although they realize residents need to come and go, they ask them to avoid travelling on those days if possible. If these dates change due to weather, they’ll advise residents accordingly, through Facebook and the township website.

Carrol told Bancroft this Week that she didn’t have any further comments on the project. “The extension was part of the Capital Budget for the 2023 year.”
