Cyberpunk 2077 is having its release date delayed again, just a few weeks before it had finally been due to launch.

The game, which features Keanu Reeves, had originally been due for release on April 16 this year but it was then moved back to September 17 and then again to November 19.

The sad news of the latest delay was shared on the game's official Twitter account, with developer CD Projekt Red's co-founder Marcin Iwiński and its head of studio Adam Badowski revealing that they had "important news".

Confirming that Cyberpunk 2077 will now be released on December 10, the pair offered their "humble apologies" to fans eagerly awaiting the game and explained the decision to postpone its release again.

"The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it," they explained in a statement, adding that staff are also now working from home.

"We need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly," they added. "We're aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do."

They explained that the game contains all of its content as they have already achieved "gold master" but that they are still making improvements "which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch".

"We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you'll fall in love with," the statement concludes.

CD Projekt Red recently faced a backlash following reports that it was asking its staff to work overtime in the lead-up to the game's release date, in a practice known as crunch.

Badowski responded on Twitter by writing that staff would all be paid for their overtime, saying: "These last six weeks are our final sprint on a project we've all spent much of our lives on. Something we care for deeply."

Cyberpunk 2077 is an action role-playing game which takes place in a dystopian metropolis called Night City, an open world which features distinct regions. Players will play as highly-customisable mercenary V and can acquire useful combat and hacking skills, as well as an impressive arsenal of weapons.

And of course John Wick and The Matrix star Keanu Reeves has a role, something that was revealed after he made a surprise appearance in a trailer announcing that "we have a city to burn".

The game will be released on next-generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X as well as on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles and on PC.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now due for release on December 10.
