'Daily Show' Spots 4 Major Flaws In Nancy Mace's 'Performative' Anti-Trans 'Bulls**t'
“Daily Show” correspondent Desi Lydic on Thursday spotted key contradictions in Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-S.C.) push to pass an anti-trans measure.
Mace recently introduced a resolution that would ban trans women from using the women’s bathroom on Capitol Hill, a move that comes roughly two weeks after Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.) became the first openly trans person elected to Congress.
In her guest-host monologue, Lydic said Mace is “getting a lot of attention for her bullshit politics” and argued that the lawmaker’s anti-trans campaign is “performative” before turning to a recent clip of the Republican telling reporters she knows “how vulnerable women and girls are in private spaces.”
“Yes, of course, you just want to protect women from hypothetical predators. That would play a lot better if you weren’t trying to get actual predators into the highest levels of government,” she said as pictures of Mace with Matt Gaetz, Pete Hegseth, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Donald Trump flashed on the screen.
The men have all been accused of some form of sexual misconduct and, after Gaetz asked for his name to be withdrawn from consideration to be the president-elect’s attorney general, Kennedy and Hegseth remain up for positions in Trump’s Cabinet.
“If Donald Trump nominated Bill Cosby, Nancy Mace would be walking in circles in an ugly ’80s sweater eating a pudding pop,” Lydic joked.
Earlier in the program, Lydic mocked Mace for her cringey “biological” addition above a women’s bathroom sign before noting someone who “would not be happy” with the congresswoman’s anti-trans crusade: Mace herself.
In 2021, Mace told the Washington Examiner that she “strongly” supports LGBTQ rights and equality before adding that “no one should be discriminated against.”
“Hmm. Wonder what changed?” Lydic said. “I guess the biggest transition was Nancy Mace wanting to identify as the center of attention.”
