How Will Dairy Queens Raise Funds For Children’s Hospitals?

Thursday will be a busy day for charity-loving people in the U.S. as it will be celebrated as Miracle Treat Day, a fundraising event, the proceeds of which will go toward saving and improving the lives of ill and injured children.

It is being touted as one of the largest local fundraising event for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals, a north American not-for-profit organisation, and is sponsored by Dairy Queen (DQ), a chain of soft serve ice cream and fast food restaurants owned by International Dairy Queen, Inc.

The money collected will help CMN Hospitals fund children's hospitals, medical research, and campaigns for community awareness of children's health issues.

According to the DQ's website, 18 DQs will be participating in the event including the ones in Cedar Rapids metro, Iowa City metro, Solon, Mount Vernon, Tipton, and Fairfax.

Throughout the day, people will have the opportunity to help children at CMN Hospitals just by purchasing a Dairy Queen Blizzard. Across the country, restaurants participating in the event will donate $1 dollar for every Blizzard sold to CMN Hospitals in their local communities, KARE 11 reported.

In 2016, DQ raised more than $4 million dollars for hospitals in the U.S. and Canada on Miracle Treat Day. The company raised more than $9 million over the course of the entire year, the report said.

Since 1984, DQ has raised more than $125 million for charity through various fundraising events like Miracle Treat Day, Miracle Balloon campaign among other local initiatives, reports said.

Regarding the local nature of the event, Amanda Lancour, program manager for CMN Hospitals at the Marshfield Children's Hospital, said: "Locations on a local level choose to participate in 'Miracle Treat Day'. Most of them in our area, we actually have 12 in our region that are choosing to donate a dollar or more, in most cases a dollar to two dollars, per blizzard sale. That will call come back to Children's Miracle Network at Marshfield Medical Center," WSAU reported.

Nick Kappenman from Madison, Wisconsin, who received help from CMN Hospitals after being diagnosed with histiocytosis, a rare form of cancer, at the age of three is ready to celebrate during Madison's Miracle Treat Day and "...eat as much as I want."

He wants to hit the Madison DQ on Thusrday morning and gorge on several ice-cream treats; he said that probably he would start with a Butterfingers-infused DQ Blizzard, a report said.
