Ontario's severe thunderstorm risk exploded into a spate of tornado warnings Thursday afternoon, beginning with warnings for the Barrie area.
Those warnings gradually migrated through the northern reaches of the GTA toward the Peterborough and Kawartha areas, leaving behind downed trees, and damaged homes and vehicles.
At a press conference around 4:30 p.m., Barrie Police told media there were multiple injuries, and significant damage in the Maple View Drive/Prince William area of the city, and that paramedics were based at a nearby elementary school. Simcoe County officials said eight people were injured, including four seriously.
