According to Trailblazers point guard Damian Lillard, Michael Jordan’s position as the consensus greatest player in NBA history is safe for, well, forever. The two-time All-Star’s reasoning has nothing to do with Jordan’s ability relative to other NBA greats and everything to do with the notion that fans will never be able to admit that a player is in fact better than the Bulls legend.
The former Weber state standout shared his views on Twitter in response to a question from a fan regarding the possibility of four-time MVP LeBron James supplanting Jordan as the greatest player in history.
@Dame_Lillard you think Bron has a shot to become the GOAT?

I don't think ppl will ever be able to admit someone is better than Jordan even if they are lol… https://t.co/DiLT7BLHd5

For a league with fans and analysts so obsessed with debating the relative greatness of its legends, Lillard’s measured response offers an interesting angle to the never-ending discussion. In a CBS Sports piece form early 2017, the site ranked Jordan as the greatest player of all time – followed by James, Wilt Chamberlin, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
