Daybreak live broadcast from Montreal West

Daybreak headed to Montreal West Friday to broadcast live from L’Oeufrier, a breakfast restaurant on Westminster North.

The special broadcast featured stories about the Montreal West borough including a chat with Mayor Beny Masella, a story about Royal West Academy’s first LGBT club and a chat with Robert Naylor, who acts alongside James Franco in the film Every Thing Will Be Fine.

Montreal West Mayor Beny Masella

One of the features of daily life here in Montreal West are the trains that cross Westminster at one of the busiest level crossings in the city. Now that a train de l’Ouest is looking more and more likely, the crossing may see an increase in train traffic. It’s a concern for people in the Montreal West, including Mayor Masella.

The mayor also talks about the future of Meadowbrook and shares the story of his weight loss.

Royal West Academy’s first LGBT Club

Daybreak’s Shari Okeke spent the week getting to know the students behind Royal West Academy’s LGBT Club. The club meets at least once a week in a classroom at lunchtime and is a safe space where students can support each other, speak openly and share their experiences.

At Royal West, Shari met 13-year-old Bry Bitar who was eager to talk about the support they have received from the club. Bry prefers the pronoun "they" — not he or she and prefers to avoid labels. Recently, Bry and their parents met with administration at the school to request a uniform switch from the boys’ uniform to the girls’, and the school agreed.

Robert Naylor returns to old stomping grounds

Actor Robert Naylor is a graduate of Royal West Academy and he stopped by the Daybreak special to talk about his upcoming film, Every Thing Will Be Fine. In the film, Naylor is cast alongside James Franco, Rachel McAdams and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
