DC community gardens celebrates grand opening

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on June 18 to officially open the new community gardens. As the district hospital is set to be replaced, local gardeners relocated to a new space at Northern Lights College.

Dawson Creek Community Garden Society president Fern Hansen said the move has worked out well - thanking everyone in attendance for their support in putting together the new space, which sports 65 raised beds for residents to enjoy. NLC, Northern Health, and several other organizations and individuals contributed to the new gardens.

"I just got back from 10 days away and all of you folks have looked after this place so fabulously - it's wonderful, so thank you," said Fern.

In February, the City of Dawson Creek proclaimed 2022 the Year of the Garden, providing mulch for some of the plots. Councillor Shaely Wilbur attended the ceremony and said she was glad they could contribute.

"Thank you to everyone who's participated in the move, it's beautiful," said Wilbur.
