Death in Paradise viewers may have spotted the signs back in episode one, but tonight's trip to Saint Marie appears to have confirmed DI Jack Mooney's exit plot as the detective was left with a big decision to make.

After finding a new connection with island visitor Anna (EastEnders' Nina Wadia), tonight's (January 23) episode of Death in Paradise saw Jack (Ardal O'Hanlon) considering the new couple's future as Anna prepared to continue on her round-the-world trip.

At first, Jack suggested that Anna change her plans and stick around in Saint Marie for a bit longer – although that sounds like chancing fate a bit to us, considering most of the island's visitors end up being brutally murdered before long.

But Anna later had a different idea when she proposed that Jack be the one to pack up and join her on her adventure instead.

"What you said last night, about me staying on, it was the sweetest thing, it really was, because I would love to spend more time with you," Anna told Jack.

"I made a promise to myself, Jack. One that I need to keep," she added, before handing over a copy of her flight details. "See, I might not be changing my plans, but there's nothing to stop you joining me," she explained.

And as Anna walked off, the offer appeared to leave Jack with a lot of food for thought, as he looked to good ol' Harry the lizard for guidance.

"What do you say, Harry?" he asked. "Do you think it's time for me to have another little adventure?"

Next week's episode will welcome back Grace Stone as Jack's daughter Siobhan as the detective continues to weigh up his choice – but with Ardal O'Hanlon bowing out this series and The Royle Family's Ralf Little confirmed to be stepping in, it's only a matter of time before Jack decides to leave, right?

Death in Paradise continues next Thursday (January 30) at 9pm on BBC One.
