Decades on, Lethbridge cold cases vex police

Lethbridge police are looking for fresh leads in two missing person cold cases.

Julie Ann Derouin hasn't been seen since New Year's Day 1980. She was 23 at the time.

She wasn't officially reported as missing until 1983, according to police.

In a news release, the department said Derouin moved to Lethbridge from B.C.'s Lower Mainland in 1979 and was an associate of the now-defunct Ghost Riders Motorcycle Club that operated in B.C. and Washington.

"As the investigation progressed, police received conflicting and unconfirmed reports that Julie may have returned to B.C. or moved to Ontario, as well as reports she was the victim of a homicide," reads the release.

A warrant was executed in 1985 to search and excavate the home it's believed she shared with her boyfriend, but nothing was found.

It's not known if she simply walked away from her life or was the victim of foul play.

Theodore Murray Milde

Lethbridge police are also looking for new information on the disappearance of Theodore Murray Milde, who went missing on Feb. 18, 1993.

According to a news release, a friend found a note and keys inside his mailbox, with directions to where that friend could find Milde's vehicle and instructions to go to Milde's house and pick up some property Milde wanted the friend to have.

Police say they found several other notes inside Milde's home.

"Milde's vehicle was later located on 28 Street North, just outside the city limits — exactly where he said it would be," reads the Lethbridge police news release.

"Footprints in the snow led into the coulees. In the days and weeks that followed, police conducted extensive searches in the river valley and surrounding area, but no trace of Milde has ever been found."

Police say evidence suggests Milde died by suicide, but his body has never been located.
