Normal travel resuming at RDU airport following equipment malfunction

Travelers through Raleigh-Durham International Airport were advised to expect delays Sunday following an equipment malfunction.

That malfunction was resolved and normal travel conditions resumed before 5 p.m., airport officials said in an email.

“Systems are coming back online at RDU after an equipment malfunction affected some technology in the terminals, as well as parking facilities and the internal phone system,” an RDU spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “Airport staff are manually assisting passengers where systems remain down. Travelers are being processed through the airport and flights are operating with no current impact on arrivals and departures. As always, travelers should check their flight status before coming to the airport.”

Earlier in the afternoon, airport officials posted on RDU social media accounts that they were investigating the situation.

“The Airport Authority is currently investigating an equipment malfunction affecting some systems at RDU,” the post reads. “Airport staff are manually assisting customers and investigating the issue. Travelers should check with their airline for flight status and plan ahead for potential delays.”

Travelers at the airport reported experiencing computer and parking problems that brought parts of RDU to a standstill.

Phone lines to the airport appeared impacted as well, as calls to RDU resulted in a busy signal.
