Demi Lovato’s Ex-Fiancé, Max Ehrich, Says He Found Out About Their Breakup “Through a Tabloid”

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 28, 2020 — Max Ehrich is continuing to share his thoughts about the end of his relationship with Demi Lovato.

Per E! News, the actor posted more information to his Instagram Stories on Sunday, September 27, still claiming he found out about the breakup through a tabloid. “I was on the set of my new movie, Southern Gospel, with crew and cast members right next to me who literally watched me open my phone where I then opened a tabloid,” he wrote.

“This is the God’s honest truth of how I found out about the ending of the engagement, and I have people from my film who saw the whole thing go down and helped me get back into character to continue my job,” he continued. “I had cast and crew with families relying on me to do my job. That being said, please end this narrative and focus on more important issues in the world. I love and forgive everyone involved. Let us be. Let us heal. God bless.”

A source told E! News that Ehrich is “lying” and that “Demi did tell him beforehand. The person added that the actor is “just trying to stay relevant. Her family thinks he is crazy and is so relieved she has taken this step.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

Well, this is awkward. Demi Lovato and her ex-fiancé, Max Ehrich, called it quits this week after a two-month engagement and six months of dating. However, while things seemed respectful at first, they've quickly gotten a little dramatic.

On Saturday, September 26, Ehrich—who is currently shooting a movie in Atlanta—took a moment to post a series of Instagram Stories suggesting that news of the breakup was announced before he was informed.

“Imagine finding out to the status of your relationship through a tabloid while your [sic] in the middle of filming a biopic movie about a Pastor in a Christian Church whose intention of the film is to help people,” he wrote in two posts. He ended his third message with a dove emoji, writing, “God bless.”

However, a source told People that Ehrich’s statement is not true. “Demi made Max aware that the relationship was over and it was going to come out in the press,” the source said following Ehrich’s posts.

Demi Lovato hasn’t directly addressed the split or any of the fallout, but she did post an Instagram Story of her own this Saturday. “Good morning,” she wrote over an image of burning sage and what appear to be essential oils.

In the original breakup announcement, a source told People that the breakup was a “tough decision” while implying there was a mutual agreement. “It was a tough decision, but Demi and Max have decided to go their separate ways to focus on their respective careers,” the source said. “They have respect and love for one another and will always cherish the time they spent together.”

However, just a day after they announced their split, new reports surfaced that suggested there were “red flags” and trust issues within the relationship. “Demi and Max were basically together 24/7 for months,” one source told People. “They lived in a bubble with zero stress, and everything was just fun. Now they are both working and are on separate coasts. There has been a lot of tension, and Demi left him to get a clear head.”

Hopefully, this will be as messy as this breakup gets.
