New Democrats set out priorities for sitting that begins Tuesday

Provincial politicians will get back to business at the Saskatchewan Legislature after the holiday weekend and the Opposition NDP says it's ready.

The fall sitting will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

The NDP says it will focus on what it's hearing from people when it knocks on their doors.

"You hear a lot about health care. You hear a lot about seniors' care," NDP MLA Warren McCall said. "You hear a lot about education not meeting the needs of young people. You hear a lot of concern about government waste."

This is the last time MLAs will debate one another in the Legislature before Saskatchewan people vote in the spring. Provincial election day is April 4, 2016.

The party breakdown of the Legislature is unchanged — 49 Saskatchewan Party MLAs and nine New Democrats.

Meanwhile, Premier Brad Wall has already spoken publicly about his government's priorities for the sitting.

As Wall said late last month, those priorities include:

- Legislation allowing additional private MRI scans.

- New rules dealing with foreign farm ownership.

- Amending essential services legislation to put it in compliance with Supreme Court ruling.

- Legislation stemming from the inquiry into conflict of interest allegations in Sherwood RM.
