Denecho King pleads guilty to being unlawfully at large
The man who broke out of the North Slave Correctional Centre — and set residents of Yellowknife on edge for three days — has pleaded guilty to being unlawfully at large.
Denecho King is scheduled for sentencing on that charge on Dec. 14.
King was in court in Yellowknife this week for an eight-day preliminary inquiry into the charges that had put him in jail originally.
Judge Robert Gorin ruled Wednesday that there is enough evidence for King to stand trial for second-degree murder and attempted murder.
King is accused of killing John Wifladt and seriously injuring Colin Digness. The attack happened in a Yellowknife apartment in December 2014.
The two men were found in an apartment on the third floor of Sunridge Place. Wifladt later died in hospital. Digness was medevaced to Edmonton for treatment.
As of Wednesday, King is now facing an additional charge of aggravated assault, according the prosecution.
