Gupshup, a Silicon Valley messaging startup with a focus on India, on Wednesday said it raised $240 million from Tiger Global Management and others to buy back shares ahead of a possible IPO next year. While venture capital investments are traditionally used for hiring more engineers or expanding sales and marketing, buy-back deals allow investors in a startup to realize their investment before an IPO. A flood of funds at a time when startups stay private for much longer has led to more buy-back deals on the private market, said Ed Zimmerman, a lawyer at Lowenstein Sandler who teaches venture capital at Columbia University's business school, referring to the market in general.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican Party's self-portrayal as champions of law and order is colliding with searing testimony from police officers themselves. Officers on Tuesday described in vivid, personal terms the terror of defending the U.S. Capitol from violent insurrectionists inspired by then-president Donald Trump on Jan. 6. Will it matter in next year's elections? Heading into the 2022 midterms, the GOP is seeking political advantage in Americans' concern about rising crime nationwide. But

TORONTO — Before he moved to the United States to become a comedy writer on late-night talk shows and "The Simpsons," Tim Long was a self-described nerd in an Ontario town dubbed "home of the white squirrel." Naturally, when Long loosely based his new Canadian comedy film

The owner of Ski Martock outside Windsor, N.S., says if the federal government doesn't change its policy on water levels in the Avon River, there will be no ski season this winter. The ski hill draws about 272 million litres of water from the river every winter to feed its snowmaking machinery. But right now, the water levels are too low. The ski hill's pumping station is 15 meters above the river, which is only about half-a-meter deep. In March, federal Fisheries Minister Bernadette Jordan issu
WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is strongly considering requiring federal employees to show proof they’ve been vaccinated against the coronavirus or otherwise submit to regular testing and wear a mask — a potentially major shift in policy that reflects growing concerns about the spread of the more infectious delta variant.
