Who did it better? Oilers, Flames WAGs show out with custom jackets

Some are calling it the real Battle of Alberta as the wives and girlfriends' of Oilers and Flames stars compete for the best matching jackets of the playoff series.

Video Transcript

JULIAN MCKENZIE: I mean no disrespect by this-- there's this photo going around of the women and girlfriends of-- of both teams in the Battle of Alberta, wearing these team jackets. I don't care for them. [LAUGHS] I don't think they look that nice.

I hope I'm not a hater. I just wanted that to be known. I just don't think they look that nice.

SAM CHANG: I didn't-- I actually didn't think the Oilers jackets could get worse after the first round, because they were like orange--

JULIAN MCKENZIE: They have more of these?

JUSTIN CUTHBERT: Different ones per round?

SAM CHANG: They had different ones in the first round. They were-- they were Oilers orange, and like kind of like a waffley kind of fabric. That's what it looks like. And I actually think the second round one somehow managed to be worse.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: OK.

JUSTIN CUTHBERT: I don't get the appeal of letting everyone know that you're so-and-so's wife or girlfriend. But I don't know. I could be on an Island on that one.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Yo, the comments are crazy. [LAUGHS]

SAM CHANG: You and Tessa Virtue, who was the Leafs player who refused to wear a-- wear one.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: That's true! That's true. [LAUGHING]

JUSTIN CUTHBERT: Oh, I-- that is the most unsurprising thing ever. That is hilarious.

SAM CHANG: He should be wearing her-- he should be wearing her jacket.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: That's very true. Morgan Reilly is Mr. Tessa Virtue.

OMAR: Yup, bless up to Tessa Virtue, man.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: You've robbed us of the Scott Moir, Tessa Virtue shipping we've been putting out for years. But you know what? Good on you, Morgan, I guess, Mr. Tessa Virtue.

JUSTIN CUTHBERT: I feel like Tessa just steers clear of Scotiabank Arena entirely. Has she been like-- maybe she was there. But I feel like that wouldn't be her thing.

SAM CHANG: She posted a photo of her-- she posted a photo of her with the-- with like a bunch of the other wives and girlfriends. But she was not in a jacket.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Yeah, OK, all right. I just wanted that said. I just kind of feel like a random comment, but like I did kind of miss it. Please don't cancel this show.

JUSTIN CUTHBERT: The Flames ones are aggressive. Aggressive.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: They're very like-- like those cowboy things? Yeah, the tassels.

JUSTIN CUTHBERT: Yeah--

JULIAN MCKENZIE: Like, no, no, no, no, no. I'm not wearing that.

SAM CHANG: You know what's nice? Was last year, last year, the Avalanche wives and girlfriends I think did-- they did blazers with the retro jersey design so that it had the fleur de lis on it. Those were nice.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: OK.

OMAR: Those were cool.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: I-- I-- I'll just have to--

SAM CHANG: They do different ones every year. It's wild.

JULIAN MCKENZIE: I'll take your word for it. I-- it's not to say-- yeah, look, whatever.

JUSTIN CUTHBERT: Hey, the Oilers wives and girlfriends, better get a third one ready.
