See serious damage caused by rare tornado hitting Los Angeles suburb of Montebello
UPDATED March 23, 2023: It was confirmed late Wednesday that damage in the Montebello suburb of Los Angeles, California, was caused by a rare tornado. “As you all know, very damaging storm effects in the Montebello area,” Michael Chee, Montebello Fire Department public information officer, said. “And based on what we’ve seen so far from the National Weather Service, we are determining that the damage is caused by a tornado around 11:20 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time this morning. We have confirmed that this is indeed a tornado that caused the damage in the Montebello area.” An earlier version of the story is below:
A video shows damage and debris from a possible tornado, or perhaps a funnel cloud, that touched down in a Los Angeles suburb on Wednesday.
Pieces of roofing were ripped off commercial buildings and debris twisted into the sky, injuring one person, according to the Associated Press.
The National Weather Service dispatched a team to the Los Angeles area city of Montebello to determine if it was a tornado, KTLA news station reported.
