Who Is Disguised as Charlotte on ‘Westworld’? We Think We Know…

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

After last night’s episode of Westworld, one thing’s for sure: Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) implanted someone else into Charlotte’s (Tessa Thompson) host body, and we’re determined to figure out his/her identity.

Season three, episode three of Westworld, titled “The Absence of Field,” follows Dolores as she teams up with Charlotte in futuristic Los Angeles.

It’s important to point out that this isn’t the real Charlotte Hale from seasons one and two, since she was killed and turned into a host. This leaves us with one major problem: Who is disguised as Charlotte?

We initially thought it could be Dolores because she has a habit of placing her memory pearl in a variety of host bodies. But since Charlotte spent the majority of the episode with Dolores, who seems totally on character, it must mean that Charlotte is being operated by a mystery android.

So, whose brain does host Charlotte have? Is it Bernard? Or Maeve? Or—dare we say—the Man in Black? Well, we think it’s Dolores’s fallen friend, Teddy (James Marsden), and our prediction is based on two key pieces of evidence.

First of all, host Charlotte is overly emotional, which is similar to how Teddy behaved prior to his suicide in season two. At multiple points in the episode, Charlotte attempts to hide her emotions, fighting back tears and pushing away memories as if the host is trying to conceal her true identity.

And second, host Charlotte and Dolores have a unique bond. Not only is Dolores confiding in Charlotte, but she also appears to have 100 percent trust in her. In one scene, Dolores implies that she’s extremely close to the Charlotte host, saying, “No one knows you like I do. No one knows me like you.”

This is probably extremely confusing for longtime Westworld fans, since Dolores doesn’t seem like the kind of gal who would befriend a Delos employee. Still, it’s clear that Charlotte isn’t actually Charlotte, and there’s only one person who Dolores would trust to carry out her master plan. And that person is Teddy.

The James Marsden withdrawal is real. Westworld returns to HBO next Sunday, April 5.
