Disney cruise ship rescues 4 boaters in Atlantic near Bermuda
Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A Disney cruise ship responded to a distress call on Sunday morning in the Atlantic Ocean and rescued four stranded boaters.
The Disney Treasure cruise was sailing from the Netherlands to its new home at Port Canaveral in Florida when it picked up a distress signal off the coast of Bermuda at about 11:40 a.m. EST. The cruise ship reached the boat about 1 p.m. and took all four aboard.
The boaters in distress were not identified.
"We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aiid to the boat passengers in peril," Capt. Marco Nogara, captain of the Disney Treasure, said.
The boat in distress was a 50-foot catamaran that had started taking on water about 265 miles from Bermuda.
"Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety," Nogara said.
Disney said the 1,285-room cruise ship was not expected to make its maiden voyage until December but already has a story to tell about its exploits.
