Disney+ Day in Canada: Subscriber discount, Disney Parks and cruise offers, and new streaming content

If you've been wavering on actually signing up for Disney+, now is the best day to make the jump after Disney+ Day on Sept. 8, filled with new content available to stream, exclusive perks at Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line, and even a limited-time discount.

From 12:00 a.m. ET on Sept. 8 through to Monday, Sept. 20 at 3:00 a.m. ET (Sept. 19 at 12:00 a.m. PT), new and eligible returning Canadian subscribers can get one month of Disney+ for $1.99.

If you've had your eye on a Disney Cruise, Disney+ subscribes who are residents of the U.S. and Canada can book with a third and fourth guests sailing free, with two full-fare guests in the same stateroom. The offer is available starting Sept. 8 on select sailings on the Disney Magic, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, departing between January and April 2023 (on select stateroom categories).

If being on land is more your speed, Walt Disney World Resort has offered special discounts on select Disney Resort hotel.

Of course, it wouldn't be Disney+ Day with a slew of new content dropping on the actual streaming platform, which you can watch from the comfort of your own home.

Here are the movies and shows that released on Disney+ Sept. 8:

'Pinocchio'

Disney’s live action remakes continue, this time with with Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the voice of Jiminy Cricket, and The Haunting of Bly Manor and Son of a Critch star Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the voice of Pinocchio. The movie is led by Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, Flight), and you can expect some changes from the Pinocchio story we know, with Lorraine Bracco playing Sofia the Seagull, a completely new character.

The Simpsons: 'Welcome to the Club'

Many believe the best the seasons of The Simpsons are really Season 1 to about Season 9, but now there is a new short to add to the mix, titled Welcome to the Club. It's set around Lisa wanting to become a princess, but it’s been teased that she eventually finds out “being bad might be more fun.”

‘Most Memorable Dances’ From Dancing with the Stars pros

Famed competition show Dancing with the Stars is moving online, with Season 31 of the show premiering only on Disney+, but before that happens your favourite Dancing pros are looking back at the 20 most memorable dances over the past 30 seasons. This new Disney+ Day content is hosted by Derek Hough, Kym Johnson, Cheryl Burke, and Brandon Armstrong and includes everything from Mirrorball-winning performances to unforgettable celebrity flubs.

'Growing Up'

Brie Larson is taking coming of age stories to new heights with Growing Up, a hybrid docu-series that explores adolescence through 10 different stories from “heroes” between the ages of 18 and 22. Using reenactments and documentary-style filmmaking, the stories are from individuals who have had different lived experiences, shining a light on their emotional journeys, overcoming social, familial and personal internal obstacles.

'Thor: Love and Thunder'

If you haven’t been able to make it to a movie theatre to see Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder after its July release, the film will now be available on Disney+. Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder definitely has Waititi’s uniquely endearing comedic flare and of course, you can see the kiss between Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth, after Hemsworth famously went against his meat-heavy diet before the kiss to be respectful of Portman’s vegan diet. Thor: Love and Thunder will be streaming IMAX Enhanced on Disney+, which expands the aspect ratio for up to 26 percent more picture for “an immersive viewing experience.”

Fans of the movie can also go behind-the-scenes with Waititi, Hemsworth, Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson and more cast and crew members, as they spill secrets from the set in Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Thor: Love and Thunder.

'Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi’s Return'

No Disney celebration is complete without something Star Wars-related and for Disney+ Day this year, fans are getting never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes footage from the making of the Lucasfilm’s original limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi. The documentary looks at the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to the screen, with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen reflecting on going back to their classic roles, while director Deborah Chow talks about adding to this saga.

'Epic Adventures with Bertie Gregory'

National Geographic Explorer, 29-year-old Bertie Gregory, is immersing himself into the lives of animals to capture unique stories of creatures living in some of the harshest environments in the world. This includes Gregory braving the icy landscape of Antarctica to document the biggest gathering of whales ever filmed, and coming face-to-face with buffalo-hunting lions in Zambia.

Cars on the Road

There is no disputing that Cars is one of the greatest Pixar animated films and now we have a new original series, Cars on the Road, with our favourite characters. The series is focused on Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his friend Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) as they head on a cross-country road trip to visit Mater’s sister.

'She-Hulk: Attorney at Law'

Last week’s episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law got massive attention for its Megan Thee Stallion cameo, and the fun continues with the latest episode of the series. Starring Canadian Tatiana Maslany, Jennifer Walters takes us along as she experiences online dating as the famed She-Hulk.
