Disney's Live-Action “Mulan” Gets a New 2020 Release Date

After a few weeks of uncertainty, Disney has confirmed a new release date for the live-action remake of Mulan.

As announced on Friday, April 3 by Variety, Disney has given Mulan the new release date of July 24, 2020. This particular date was previously held by the Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt-led action adventure flick Jungle Cruise, which has now moved to July 30, 2021. Mulan director Niki Caro confirmed the live-action remake's new release date on Instagram, sharing in part, "Once it is again safe to gather, to sit in a movie theatre together and share the experience of of a great story, we will be there. And we can’t wait to share Mulan’s journey with you all. Worldwide. On big screens."

It was announced in mid-March that Mulan was paused within Disney's 2020 release schedule amidst growing concerns over the spread of the coronavirus. Mulan was not the only Disney movie to be either postponed or pulled from the scheduled entirely. At the time, the House of Mouse also pulled upcoming releases like Marvel's Black Widow, which is now arriving in November 2020, and paused production on upcoming movies, including the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid starring Halle Bailey.

In addition to Mulan, Jungle Cruise, and Black Widow, Disney has doled out new release dates for numerous upcoming Marvel pics: Eternals is now set for February 12, 2021; Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for May 7, 2021; Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive on February 18, 2022; Black Panther 2 will be released on May 6, 2022 and Captain Marvel 2 follows soon after with a July 8, 2022 release date.

Of course, these new dates are based on the assumption that movie theaters will be re-opened by the time summer rolls around, and that production on upcoming movies will be allowed to resume in order to make those 2021 and 2022 premieres happen. For the time being, it is important we all do our best to stay safe and healthy during this global pandemic.
