DJ Khaled blessed up Conan this week when he shared his three major keys. “When I make my hit records, certain things have to be there — and that ‘DJ Khaled’ has to be there. ‘Another one’ has to be there. And that ‘we the best music’ has to be there. Those are like three major keys.”
Conan O’Brien, who was majorly impressed by Khaled’s signature intro on all of his hit records, told Khaled, “I think your most genius move is that in all of these songs, you yell out your name at the top.” He also told the record producer, “I’m angry that I didn’t think of it, because I’m thinking it would work in the talk show format if I just routinely — I’m talking to anyone, you know, I’m talking to Dame Judi Dench — and I just go, ‘Conan O’Brien!'” Khaled then proceeded to instruct the show’s house band to play a drumbeat for O’Brien after he yelled his name. “That’s an intro. Intro and presentation is key,” shared Khaled.
However, when O’Brien attempted to add “another one” to the end of his new intro, Khaled told him he would only insert that key “if it’s a hit record.” A disappointed Conan then said, “That’s going to be a problem.”
