Doctor Who has begun filming series 14 in Cardiff, with new companion Millie Gibson showing fans her fancy new home.

Coronation Street star Gibson will play the new Doctor's companion Ruby Sunday when the series launches next year.

Fans were thrilled to find out the Time Lord casting news recently when it was revealed that David Tennant, who played Doctor number 10, would be returning to his role for the beginning of series 14.

Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa, who had previously been announced as the new Doctor, will then take over from him as he regenerates.

A tweet from the official Doctor Who account read: "Filming has officially begun today for the next series of #DoctorWho!"

It was posted with a clip of the door to the Tardis which was ajar, and a clapperboard held in front of it with the Doctor Who logo on it and the date written as "5th December '22".

Gibson also tweeted about her excitement at joining the hit BBC One sci-fi show.

She posted a photo of a smart-looking kitchen and a vase of flowers with a card in them that showed two red hearts, a plus sign, and a red diamond.

The actor captioned it: "First day… officially a Cardiff resident ;) @bbcdoctorwho"

Her former Corrie co-star Sally Ann Matthews commented: "Oooo, that looks fancy! x" and Gibson replied: "Pop round for a brew ;)"

The 2023 series will also see Catherine Tate, who previously played Tennant's incarnation's companion Donna Noble, return to her role.

It isn't yet clear whether there will be a crossover of Doctors and companions, or how long fans will have to wait to see Gatwa and Gibson on screen.

Russell T Davies returns to Doctor Who series 14 as showrunner, having previously worked on it from 2005 to 2010.

The outgoing cast includes Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, Bradley Walsh and John Bishop as companions, and the showrunner passing on the baton to Davies is Chris Chibnall.
