Does the shoe fit

Emma Koehler is no stranger to shoes.

More than 80 years ago, her family opened up the doors to Henderson’s Shoes in Blenheim, Ont.

Now, Koehler is following her grandparents’ and parents’ footsteps towards her new career path. The certified pedorthist has opened a Chatham satellite clinic for London-based Shantz Orthotic Solutions at 234 Queen St.

“I’m not sure if it’s genetics or coincidence, but I have followed my grandparents’ career path in the foot business and residing in Blenheim,” said Koehler.

Koehler admits she does not recall the store as it closed in 1987 before she was born. However, her mother, who grew up in Blenheim, worked there alongside her grandparents. Koehler’s father grew up in Ridgetown.

Currently, Koehler is the only employee at the Chatham clinic, which is open Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. She works for the rest of the week in London.

“Once I get busier, I will be adding more days,” said Koehler.

After working at the London clinic for the past three years, Koehler recently moved back home to Blenheim, where her mom grew up. Her father grew up in Ridgetown. Koehler said she is excited to be closer to home.

“I have always loved the Blenheim and Ridgetown areas as that’s where I grew up,” said Koehler. “I am so excited to be back in Chatham-Kent, being able to give back to the community and bring my Pedorthic services to the area. The community is so supportive.”

The services offered include biomechanical analysis and gait analysis. This helps determine if any issues may be causing pain or discomfort within the lower leg or feet.

“My career involves the design, manufacturing and fitting of custom foot orthotics as well as therapeutic modifications to footwear for the relief of painful or disabling conditions of the lower legs and feet,” said Koehler.

Other products available for sale are custom foot orthotics, bracing, compression stockings, footwear (stock and custom-made), and footwear modifications.

“I just want to say thank you for all the support I’ve received from the community,” said Koehler. “I have felt so welcomed by everyone I have seen so far, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

To book an appointment, contact the clinic at 519-660-6550 or 1-888-214-3338.

“We are always excited to have new clients book appointments at the clinic,” said Koehler.
