Dog Rescued from Dryer Vent After Squeezing Head In and Getting Stuck

The curious dog was rescued from the small space after an hour of work from the Police and Fire departments

A South Carolina dog was rescued after sneaking into a surprising space!

According to a Facebook post from the Sumter Police Department — which worked with the Sumter Fire Department to rescue the pet — Spike ended up in a house dryer vent on Nov. 30.

Members of the fire and police departments arrived at the scene to retrieve the dog from the tight spot. "Spike was sniffing out mischief when he got stuck in the dryer vent of a Warren Court home earlier today," said the Sumter Police Department.

The two departments worked together to break apart the house’s exterior wall to rescue Spike from the vent, reported WLTX-TV. As Spike patiently waited for help from the responders, he hung his head out in the open while his body remained in the vent.

The teams were able to retrieve Spike after widening the dryer vent and pulling the pet back inside the house, reported Fox News.

The police department shared that the “happy hound was freed from his unfortunate circumstance and is doing fine.”

“[Spike was] probably looking to see what else he can get into for the day,” concluded the police department’s statement.

It took just over an hour to remove Spike from the small space, according to the dog owner’s grandmother.

She commented on the Facebook post and provided an update for curious minds. “I am thankful for the time and the care from both police and fire department for rescusing Spike, it took an lil over an hour glad I was home while Kam was at school.”

“Job Well Done,” added the grandmother.

Photos from the Sumter Police Department show the dog sitting with his head in a small hole outside of the house as he patiently awaits to be removed from the confined space.

Additionally, shots of Spike and the rescue teams working together to remove him were posted on Facebook.

The police department also shared a photo of the triumphant dog standing outside the home after completing the rescue mission.  

Representatives for Sumter Police Department and Sumter Fire Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for additional information on Wednesday.
