Dollar Tree switches policy yet again — customers are now required to wear masks

Dollar Tree and Family Dollar will now require customers to wear face masks after reversing an earlier policy last month.

The move comes after several major retailers said they would require shoppers to don face masks to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

The update appeared on Dollar Tree’s coronavirus response page, but it’s unclear when the policy changed.

“To best help protect one another, and in accordance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we are requiring all associates, customers and vendors to wear face coverings when inside our stores,” the company said.

This isn’t the first time Dollar Tree has reversed its mask policy.

On July 8, Dollar Tree, which also owns Family Dollar, posted that it would require all shoppers, workers and vendors to wear cloth face coverings inside stores, McClatchy News previously reported.

In an update to the stores’ coronavirus response policy posted July 16, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar said they would only “request that our customers wear face coverings.”

Customers were still required to wear masks in Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores located where local or state governments have mandated masks be worn in public, the company said.

In July, Walmart, McDonald’s, Sam’s Club, Walgreens, CVS, Kohl’s, Target, Gap, Aldi and Kroger all announced shoppers would be required to wear masks.
