Dollarama launches online store for bulk purchases

Dollarama now lets customers buy some of its products in bulk online and have them delivered for a fee.

After a five-week pilot program in Quebec, the Montreal-based discount retailer said Tuesday it has rolled out the program on a permanent basis across the country.

Not everything the company sells in its stores will qualify, and you won't be able to buy items in quantities smaller than a caseload. But the program is targeted at businesses and customers who already buy large amounts of items again and again at one of the chain's 1,203 existing locations across Canada.

Not everything the chain sells will be available for purchase online. "Online products are popular products ... for bulk buying," spokesperson Lyla Radmanovich said, adding that about 1,000 different products will be available online. That compares with in person, where chain-wide Dollarama stores sell about 4,000 different items, excluding seasonal items.

"Product categories include: cleaning, clothing, electronics, food, hardware, health and beauty, home, kitchen, office, party, pets and toys," the company said in a release.

There will also be a flat rate delivery fee of $18 which Radmanovich said covers most areas in Canada, although certain remote areas may cost more. Customers can have their orders delivered either to their home or business, or one of a select number of pickup locations, which they can select at checkout.
