Dolly Parton released a new song about finding hope amid coronavirus, and she can do no wrong
Have you cried yet today? If not, here’s your chance. Dolly Parton, Queen of Country Music and our hearts, just released a new song about maintaining hope, faith, and positivity in the face of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and we’re playing it on repeat for the foreseeable future.
Parton wrote her brand new single “When Life Is Good Again” while quarantined at home in Nashville, and it vocalizes a thought process that so many of us have experienced since COVID-19 altered every aspect of our lives. In the song, Parton promises that when life gets back to normal, she’ll appreciate it—and the people surrounding her—even more.
“When life is good again/I’ll be a better friend/A bigger person when/Life is good again,” she sings. Parton also pledges to be “more thoughtful,” “try to make amends,” and “open up [her] heart” to all the good things this world has to offer.
Like plenty of Dolly songs, this one is firmly grounded in her Christian faith. But whether or not you share her belief that “God’s the reason for all things,” her uplifting message is pretty universal. “You want rainbows, you get rain,” she sings next, which is kind of rounds out the thesis here: Sometimes, you can’t fully appreciate beauty until you’re hit with the ugly. But Parton swears that those good things—like flying kites, playing the mandolin, drinking with old friends (which, Dolly, we would love to join in on)—will eventually return.
“Everything’s gonna be alright,” she promises, and we’re inclined to agree.
We don’t know what we did to deserve Queen Dolly, but we’re glad we did it.
