Dolly Parton’s New Christmas Album Will Save 2020
Leave it to Dolly Parton to give us something to look forward to during this horror of a year.
On August 13, the country legend shared some big news on Instagram: She's dropping her first holiday album in 30 years. That's right: A Holly Dolly Christmas is coming October 2. Not only that, but the album will include a bunch of high-profile collabs with artists including Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Michael Bublé, and…Jimmy Fallon?
“I thought, I think I'll call it A Holly Dolly Christmas because I love the song 'A Holly Jolly Christmas' with Burl Ives," Parton told Billboard. "I thought, Why don't do I call it something cute and clever, like that or Deck the Halls With Boughs of Dolly, something corny like that.”
As for the cameos, Miley Cyrus will be featured on a track titled “Christmas Is,” while Fallon and Parton will join forces for a cover of Mariah Carey's “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
“I thought, What other songs are really hot?” Parton explained. “Jimmy Fallon, a couple of years ago, I was on his show around Christmas and he asked me to sing [‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’] and I didn't know it and I felt so bad. So I went and learned it and I was just going to put it on my album and then I went, ‘I’ll ask Jimmy Fallon to sing it with me!’ And he said yes. So I'm really excited about that.”
I'm certainly not the only one who feels blessed by the “Jolene” artist. “2020 is saved,” one fan wrote in the comments, a sentiment that was repeated by many.
"Some much-needed happiness in this otherwise dumpster-fire of a year," another fan wrote, followed by a user who chimed in, “Finally something good in 2020.”
“Dolly said, screw this year..let it be Christmas already," wrote user @cowboysandkisses, and I honestly couldn't agree more.
But wait, there's more. According to her Billboard cover story, A Holly Dolly Christmas will be accompanied by a Netflix Christmas movie, Christmas on the Square, named after a song on the album. We truly don't deserve Dolly Parton!
