Trump Claimed Women Will "No Longer Be Thinking About Abortion" If He Wins, And The Backlash Was Immediate

It's not a secret that Vice President Kamala Harris is leading among women polled when it comes to the 2024 presidential election. And with abortion rights and women's healthcare ranking as a top issue, it's also not surprising that former president Donald Trump has recently chosen to address the topic during rallies.

In fact, while speaking at a campaign rally in Wilmington, North Carolina this weekend, the 78-year-old made quite the statement, asserting that, with him as president, women will "no longer be thinking about abortion."

He said, "Let's talk about our great women, because women have gone through a lot — they've gone through a lot."

"Women are poorer than they were four years ago; are less healthy than they were four years ago; are less safe on the streets than they were four years ago; are paying much higher prices for groceries and everything else than they were four years ago; are more stressed and depressed and unhappy than they were four years ago."

"I will fix all of that — women, I will fix all of that and I will fix it fair," he said. "Women will be happy, healthy, confident, and free. You will no longer be thinking about abortion."

"Because it is now where it always had to be — with the states and with the vote of the people. The people are now voting and many of those votes are far more liberal than we thought."

His statement largely echoes a post he shared on Truth Social — in all caps — ahead of his speech. However, there, he doubled down on the false claim that democrats are "executing" babies post-birth before promising, "I WILL PROTECT WOMEN AT A LEVEL NEVER SEEN BEFORE."

The speech was highly criticized online. One person wrote, "Women don't need Donald Trump to fix their problems. They need Donald Trump to stop causing them problems!"

Another said, "I'm a woman and I am certainly not poorer than I was four years ago."

And many invoked the case of 28-year-old mom and medical assistant Amber Nicole Thurman who developed a rare infection after taking prescribed pregnancy-ending pills that did not expel all fetal tissue from her body. She reportedly went to a hospital after experiencing heavy pain and loss of consciousness. However, due to her state's (Georgia) strict six-week abortion ban, doctors waited 20 hours before operating. By that time, her organs failed and she died. Upon investigation, the state found her death was "preventable."

While stipulating that women "WILL FINALLY BE HEALTHY, HOPEFUL, SAFE, AND SECURE" under his presidency, Trump has also bragged about being the president to overturn Roe v. Wade and the protections it provided.
