Donald Trump Says He’s ‘Not a Fan’ of Meghan Markle

President Donald Trump would seemingly have a lot on his plate right now given the fact we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic, he’s running for reelection, and he’s about to be in a heated battle for a Supreme Court seat—but he still had time to criticize Meghan Markle with some snide remarks in a White House press briefing.

“I’m not a fan of hers and I would say this, and she probably has heard that, but I wish a lot of luck to Harry—he’s going to need it,” he said, per NBC News.

So what set the president off this time? It would appear to be the video the Sussexes recorded for the Time 100 television special in which they encouraged Americans to vote in the upcoming election.

“We’re just six weeks out from Election Day, and today is National Voter Registration Day. Every four years, we are told the same thing, that ‘this is the most important election of our lifetime,’” Markle said. “But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter. Because you do. And you deserve to be heard.”

“This election, I’m not going to be able to vote here in the U.S.,” Harry added. “But many of you may not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the U.K. my entire life. As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity.”

It should be noted that at no point have Markle or Prince Harry publicly endorsed Joe Biden, though some have interpreted their comments that way. Markle did support Hillary Clinton in 2016, prior to marrying into the royal family, calling Trump “divisive and misogynistic.” And when Trump made an official visit to the U.K. in 2019, he reportedly said of her comments, “I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty.” (He later denied this.)

Donald Trump also tweeted about Markle and Prince Harry regarding funding for their security costs while residing in the U.S., even though they never asked the government to pay for anything.

The Sussexes have not responded to the president’s latest insult, but Markle did make a surprise appearance on America’s Got Talent on September 23 with a message for contestant Archie Williams, who was wrongly convicted of aggravated rape and attempted murder, spending 36 years in prison before being released in March 2019 when his conviction was overturned.

“Just wanted to let you know that we’ve been so moved by your story and we’ve been cheering you on every week, and it’s not just because we’re partial to the name. So, a very special message to you that I’ll probably be saying all of my life, but on this night, it’s specifically for you: Archie, we are proud of you and are rooting for you. We can’t wait to see what you do. We’re in your corner. Have a good night,” she said.
