Ordering take-out from your favourite restaurant is getting a little more convenient.
DoorDash, a company connecting customers with their favourite local and national businesses is now available in New Tecumseth.
Several local restaurants are part of the system for delivery and pickup using the DoorDash app.
You can download the DoorDash app or visit the DoorDash website.
New customers will receive $0 delivery fees on all orders of $12.00 or more in their first month.
DoorDash was created in 2013 to connect customers with their community and provide local restaurants with access to the on-line convenience economy through a suite of services.
DoorDash was made available to 16 communities in Canada on May 26, including New Tecumseth.
For business owners like Victoria Devita, of Munchies by MV in Alliston, the app will help get them through the current pandemic restrictions.
Munchies by MV is a new business that provides variety of take-out food with a varied menu like wings, poutine, and burgers, and DoorDash will have them delivered right to your home.
Ms. Devita was delivering school lunches to schools in the region, but that was put on hold when the pandemic forced schools to stop allowing her and her staff into the facilities. She decided to continue and began working out of a kitchen on Young Street.
Munchies by MV doesn't have a typcial store front and customers can order from the menu on-line.
Victoria said the new app will help her get her food delivered to customers around the region.
“We only opened six weeks ago,” Victoria said. “We don't have a store front. We were doing school lunches in Tottenham.”
She moved to her new location because the kitchen she was using in Tottenham also rented out to other organizations and they may use nuts in their cooking. Because she did school lunches she uses no nuts in the preparation of her food so it is a nut-free menu.
“We do poutines, different kind of wings, burgers, and things like that,” Victoria explained. “People call us and can pick up or we deliver. We saw DoorDash was coming and we signed up with them. For us, because we're new, the benefit is that we get our name out there. A lot of people don't want to drive to get a meal. Because we don't have a store front we have to rely on word of mouth and our fliers which we deliver door to door. People call us or go on DoorDash to find us.”
When you go on the DoorDash app, you can select the town you are in and it will display local restaurants who are on the app.
You can see the Munchies by MV menu on-line, and simply place your order.
“DoorDash started in the suburbs, and it’s always been a goal to bring the convenience and accessibility of on-demand delivery to the towns and communities outside of major metropolitan areas,” said Brent Seals, general manager of DoorDash Canada. “Over the past year we’ve helped to introduce delivery to many communities for the very first time and we’re excited to introduce our services to customers, Dashers and restaurants in the New Tecumseth area.”
DoorDash offers its services to over 150 communities in Canada and also in the U.S. and Australia.
