Downtown tagging rampage ends in 160 charges
Two men face about 160 graffiti-related charges after a one-day tagging spree in Edmonton.
Police arrested the pair after responding to a call in the 118th Avenue area at about 6:30 a.m., April 5th, that two men were spray painting numerous buildings throughout the area.
The suspects were seen tagging numerous buildings, light standards, even a vehicle, on 118th Avenue between 92nd and 102nd Streets during the early morning hours.
More charges were laid for tagging buildings further east on the avenue between 42nd and 46th Streets and south of the river along 84th Avenue between 99th and 109th Streets.
“There is absolutely nothing remotely artistic about tagging,” said Supt. Tony Harder in a news release. “This is the type of disorder that destroys neighbourhoods and promotes further criminality.”
Property damage is estimated at more than $18,000.
A 25-year-old and an 18-year-old face 79 counts each of mischief under $5,000.
