MONTREAL — Quebec provincial police say several people are injured after dozens of cars were involved in a pileup on Highway 40 northeast of Montreal on Christmas Day.

Police say they were called shortly before 1 p.m. for a multiple-vehicle collision in Yamachiche, Que., on Saturday.

Investigators didn't say how many people were injured, but they say one person suffered multiple serious injuries.

A police press release says the collision may have been caused by a heavy truck and bad road conditions.

The release says all those who were injured have already been taken from the scene, but part of Highway 40 remains closed.

Transport Minister François Bonnardel tweeted that as many as 150 cars may have been involved in the pileup, and he urged drivers to avoid the sector.
