Drake names new album - and possibly Toronto - 'The 6'

Toronto's nickname might be getting an update courtesy of its most famous rap export, Drake.

The former Forest Hill resident is calling his next album Views From The 6, Billboard Magazine has reported. There is online speculation the 6 refers to the 416, Toronto's area code. Other rumours are that it could also refer to the newer 647 area code as well.

Drake has a tattoo of '416' and has mentioned it in his song lyrics. Around April Fool's, fake photos of 'The 6' billboards around Toronto circulated online — a hoax purported to come from Drake himself.

Either way, Toronto's nicknames have a history of gaining prominence in rap songs. The T-Dot, for instance, which references T.O., was made famous by rappers like Kardinal Offishall and the Rascalz.

If the 6 does refer to Toronto, the 27-year-old rapper will have a chance to popularize it at his annual Toronto hip hop festival, OVOFest, at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre.

The already sold-out concert takes place on Aug. 3 and 4 with headlining sets from Outkast and Drake himself. It usually includes a host of special guests, such as Kanye West and Lil Wayne in past years.
