Drew Barrymore has taken to Instagram to remind her followers not to compare themselves to others, talking openly and honestly about her post-baby body.

The actress posted two photographs of herself at two very different points; one of a promotional shot from her television show and the other of her working out after giving birth.

Alongside the images, the actress talked about her own body “rollercoaster” and how hard it is for her “to look decent”, but how, above all else, she’ll always be thankful for what her body can do.

“I go up and I go down,” she captioned the post. “The rollercoaster of my body is a challenging, but a beautiful ride. I made two kids. The single most important purpose of me being on this planet is for them.”

“It is a true miracle I was able to have these two girls. So whatever the aftermath on my body, well bring it on.”

She continued: “There have been times I have stood in my closet and just cried. Hated getting dressed. Didn’t feel good.”

She also took the opportunity to reassure her fans that everything you see on Instagram isn’t always real.

“It takes so much for me to look decent. I just have to eat right and work my ass off,” she said frankly.

“So don’t be fooled by what you see when people are thin right after baby. Don’t compare yourself to the magazines and the red carpets.”

Barrymore told her fans about her own experiences of working hard, in the hopes of inspiring them to do the same. “If I looked decent on anything I have done since I had my two kids, I have clawed my way there. You can too.”

She's not the only celebrity using Instagram to open up about the realities of having a baby; Ashley Graham has also recently shared posts about her changing body.

"Same me. Few new stories," Graham, who gave birth to her son earlier this month, posted alongside a picture of her stretch marks.
