Mayor Drew Dilkens says he's feeling fine after dizzy spell

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens held a news conference Thursday afternoon to assure Windsorites he is fine after briefly being in hospital earlier in the day.

Dilkens was behind a podium talking about the city's 311 service Thursday morning, when he stopped speaking abruptly and was helped toward a chair. Paramedics were called to attend to him at City Hall Square.

"I thought I was going down," said Dilkens, 43, recounting his day at the news conference.

He briefly went to the hospital, where doctors ran a battery of tests. Everything came back clear. While he was at the hospital he was reading comments on social media and quickly sent out a message assuring everyone he was fine.

"Good news, everything is normal and I can't explain it," he said at the afternoon news conference. "Obviously, it's terribly embarrassing for anyone to be up at a podium and to have something like that happen."

He said he takes no medication and eats well. The Mayor did admit he could squeeze a few more workouts into his busy schedule.

His wife, who was by his side at the conference on Thursday afternoon, vouched for his healthy eating habits.

He was told to take the rest of Thursday off by medical staff, but plans on being back at work Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. sharp.
