Drink Driver Blames Beer-Battered Fish For Being Over The Limit

A man arrested for drink driving told police that he was over the limit because of the beer-battered fish that he’d just eaten.

John Przybyla was stopped by police in Adams County, Wisconsin, who suspected that the 76-year-old had been drinking.

But Przybyla insisted that it was his fishy lunch that was to blame for the alcohol in his system.

A police report read: “The smell of a moderate odour of an intoxicating beverage was emitting from his breath.”

An open can of lager was also sitting on the truck’s passenger seat, while Przybyla’s eyes were bloodshot and glossy.

An alcohol test found his alcohol content was below the standard 0.08% - but Przybyla had been charged multiple times previously for drink driving and he had a court-imposed limit of 0.02%.

Przybyla has now been found guilty of his tenth offence of drunken driving and faces up to a maximum of 12-and-a-half years in prison.

The excuse comes on the day that ministers are considering cutting the drink-drive limit in England and Wales by a third.

The move would mean motorists could be limited to less than one glass of wine if they intend on driving after an alcoholic drink.
