Driver, 19, killed after being ejected in two-vehicle crash on I-5 in Sacramento County
A 19-year-old man was killed Saturday in a south Sacramento County crash when he drove at a high speed, collided into another car and then was ejected from his vehicle after striking a center divider on Interstate 5, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol led the 19-year-old Antioch man, driving a 2012 Infiniti, to smash into an Elk Grove driver’s vehicle, the CHP’s South Sacramento office said in a news release. The Infiniti driver died at the scene.
The 21-year-old Elk Grove man, driving a 2019 Ford, didn’t suffer any injuries in the collision, which happened on northbound I-5 south of Hood Franklin Road.
A passenger in the Infiniti, described as a Pittsburg man, suffered major but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to the news release. The CHP was called about the incident just before 9:20 p.m., a news release said.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will identify the driver who died after family are notified.
