Driver suspected of DUI crashed into school bus Friday on U.S. 101, State Patrol says

A 33-year-old Aberdeen man, suspected of driving under the influence, is now facing multiple criminal charges after he crashed into a school bus Friday evening near South Bend, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The school bus was not transporting children because it had been decommissioned, Trooper Katherine Weatherwax said via social media.

About 6:10 p.m., the Aberdeen man was headed south on U.S. Highway 101 near South Bend in Pacific County. Troopers say the man veered to the right of the highway, then over-corrected his steering and entered the northbound lanes, crashing into the bus.

The 33-year-old man is accused of DUI, driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock, according to State Patrol.

Two women in their 20s were in the bus. They were not seriously injured but were still taken to Willapa Harbor Hospital in South Bend. The Aberdeen man also was taken to the same hospital.
