Driver thrown from car during chase with state police on I-75, Georgia troopers say
A 24-year-old man is dead after leading state troopers on a chase on Interstate 75 over the weekend, according to Georgia State Patrol.
Troopers said they were asked to join a pursuit with Whitfield County deputies just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23, according to a news release.
A trooper took position on I-75 north in Catoosa County and used a PIT maneuver to stop the chase, GSP said. The driver’s silver BMW left the roadway and hit a guardrail before overturning.
The driver, identified as Jeffrey Thomas, 24, was thrown from the car and died from his injuries, according to the release. Authorities haven’t said why Thomas was being pursued.
The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
Catoosa County is about 18 miles southeast of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
